I did say he could ride back out on the next boat. 

He could have given his wife his spare camera and with one of them at 
each end of the boat, on signal, both start taking pictures with just 
a few seconds between shots while centering on the same land mark.  
He could likely get something out of that.

 In truth, Dr.T didn't know he had a problem until he started 
mounting the slides.  Luck or maybe just good judgment or old habits 
hard learned, he had taken several shots of what he wanted, kind of 
delta bracketing, and it saved the day.  Film is cheap and when you 
see something you like it is best to work the shutter some.  You 
can't always get everything you want but you can try and the more you 
try the better your chances.
