First, thanks to nice George for his nice remarks about my niceness.
We're both just so nice. I'd love to compose a letter to Grant's
"customer," but this may be the worst possible circumstance as I'm frankly
even more incensed than Grant himself appears to be. Jim Norman is a much
cooler cookie and a more disciplined writer, if those are the desirable
qualities. I'm a hot head.

I like Paul's "Judge Judy" idea. There's nothing like a Jewish mother to
clean your clock and make a mensch out of you.

In any case, Grant has to be the control here - no one should be altering
the situation in ways that he hasn't approved. He is entitled to play out
the game according to his understanding of the rules and his ultimate
goals. (He also needs to stop worrying about small variations in camera
interocular spacing - I doubt he is really seeing a difference between the
S1 and Realist shots. It's a puny difference.)

I too am puzzled by Jon G's posting to say that he couldn't say anything
(bit of a paradox, that!). If there are salient details that change the
character of the situation, I would hope that Grant would share them. I
have trouble imagining what would mitigate the decision to keep a camera
bought through such circumstances. For me, the returning of the camera
would not be a decision so much as an instant reflex, so the notion that
some facts or reasoning might justify telling Grant "tough luck." or even
keeping him in suspense. is beyond my imagination. Perhaps you can help
me learn.

My moralistic treatise generated two off-list responses, one expressing
concern about my non-belief in God, the other concerned about my
non-belief in Ayn Rand. Glad to know that I have succeeded in puzzling
the full range of readers. I would suggest that Martin Gardner's "The
Whys of a Philosophical Scrivener" gives some (rough) idea of my
philosophical leanings. And better expressed than what you see here.

I hope to get back to the list soon with a report on the activities of the
Heartland Stereographic Society, which met here in Lawrence on Saturday.

Meanwhile, let me know where, why and when to send my $20.

Bruce
