Hello Arie et all,

Since a lot of people are buying stereo things from ebay,
this question is of interest to many of us, especially
those outside the USA.

The postal rates can be found at the US Postal Service's
web site:

http://www.usps.com/

(go under "calculate postage" and "international calculator")

Under "package", I selected "Netherlands" and put
1 lb and 15 oz (there are 16 oz in one lb). Here are some
of the options that came up:

Global Express Guaranteed (GXG) Non-Document $51.00
Global Express Mail (EMS) 2 - 3 Days $29.00
Global Priority Mail - Flat-rate Envelope (large) 3 - 5 Days $9.00
Global Priority Mail - Flat-rate Envelope (small) 3 - 5 Days $5.00
Airmail Letter-post 4 - 7 Days $13.30 Max. length 24"
Airmail Parcel Post 4 - 7 Days $15.50 Max. length 42"
Economy (Surface) Letter-post 4 - 6 Weeks $6.30 Max. length 24"
Economy (Surface) Parcel Post 4 - 6 Weeks $18.25 Max. length 42"

Assuming that the box is less than 24" length (1" = 2.5cm),
the most popular options in this case are:

- Airmail: $13.30
- Surface mail: $6.30

Lately, I have been using the Global Priority mail flat
envelope to ship heavy things like books that can fit
in a 6x10" in or 9.5x12.5" envelope. You could put
up to 4 lbs and only pay $5 (small) or $9 (large
envelope). This turns out to be cheaper and travels
faster than regular airmail. Something to consider...
(You have to pickup the "flat rate" envelopes from the
post office.)

The USPS site also have information on insurance etc.
A useful reference for those who want to have things
shipped outside of the USA.
