I am not up on web rings and how they work, so forgive
me if my knowledge is lacking on this topic. But in
my opinion if a ring gets too large, it is practically
useless to have the sites chained together in a ring.
Is this what you meant Dan? And putting the Web ring
icon on your front page may be OK if your neighbors on
the ring happen to be high quality sites, but who would
want to have a direct link to a fraudulent 3d site for
example.

That said there are obvious advantages to joining a web
ring. If I were making the rules for a web ring, I
wouldn't make the presence of the Icon a necessity or
even encourage it. Quality sites probably have other
stuff they'd rather display. The listing and the search
feature on the web ring main page seem to be a much more
effective and modern way to use a web ring.

Now that I've displayed my ignorance. Maybe someone will
explain how web rings work and what their advantages are!
