Let me encourage anyone who can get to a slide show that presents a
return to the 3D of the 1950's to do so.
There are not many of us who are willing to take a show of assorted
50's slides and a vintage projector on the road. Those who do what
Chris Perry (A.K.A. "Doctor 3D") is doing should have the
encouragement and the guidance of those who really appreciate stereo
theater.
Chris Perry is listed as a member of NSA. That is enough to clues us
in to the fact that he has the resources of the 3D community at his
disposal. If he has been to the stereo theater, he probably knows
enough to use the necessary equipment.
If the show is good, let everyone know. If it needs help, let him
know how to make it better. Whatever the situation, please show your
support. If we can encourage this sort of "outreach" let's do it.
By the way, who am I? I am an East-Coast version of Chris. This
year I have initiated a road show dubbed Modern Magic Lantern 3D
Productions. Our first show, with synched Brackett Faders and a
modest 70" by 70" lenticular screen brought the desirability of
making a number of technical refinements to our attention. The
college audience was appreciative, but most viewers did not bring
stereo expertise to their comments and questions. Several of us in
the theater did have enough exposure to stereo projection practices
to make it possible to have a thorough de-briefing after the show.
The next show should benefit from both practice and feedback.
What's up next? A symposium on stereoscopes sponsored by the Orange
County Historian's Office in the Historic 1841 Court House in Goshen,
New York, on April 28th, 10 a.m. to Noon (coffee at 9 a.m.). Half an
hour of the time will be devoted to a presentation of images captured
from Victorian stereocards of Saratoga Springs. The rest of the
morning will be spent looking at old cards and some reasonable
reproductions made from cards. No cost. Just give an honest
appraisal of our efforts. We are willing to learn how to do better.
