This coverage issue is one that also varies with the person using the
viewer. Several years ago, I "converted" some viewers for 7p, by opening up
the aperture masks next to the slides. They worked fine for me, but friends
who wore eyeglasses sometimes had problems even with the 5p slides they were
designed for.
When a person's vision only requires a moderate + or - diopter correction,
they can often remove their glasses and correct with the focus control.
However, if they require other corrections as well, such as severe
astigmatism, they must wear their eyeglasses while looking into the viewer.
Another problem for eyeglass wearers is the back reflection of room
ambience, which is usually more severe than for people without glasses who
can hold the viewer closer to their eyes. Side shields of the type that
"wrap around" can get in the way of eyeglasses, unless they are very large.
The flat-faced rubber cup design usually seems to work better for them,
since they can press their glasses right up to the soft cups.
The most frequent problem that I have run into, when sharing slides among
several people, has been that each person must refocus (and, when available,
reset the interocular adjustment) each time it is their turn at the viewer.
Any thoughts, comments, suggestions?
