<< While walking along West 23rd St. between 7th and 8th Avenues in
Manhattan I passed Chelsea Guitar. In the window a US Marine Corp
recruiting poster caught my eye. The interesting thing was that it
was a lenticular. The poster had a head and shoulders shot of a
Marine in dress uniform on the right and the flag raising at Iwo Jima
behind his left shoulder. They also had a pair of framed lenticulars.
One of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, the other of John Wayne. These
had hand written notes telling passers by to ask inside about
lenticulars and that the John Wayne was for sale. I was late getting back to
work from lunch, so I didn't stop in to see what else they had or what they
were charging for the John Wayne. >>

Here's the story on this. I market these 1950's "Hollywood" backlit
lenticulars. I was selling them to a store in New York City - Lost City Arts
- for about 10 years, and they were selling about 1 - 2 a week at $350 each!
These are the Paul Hesse pictures produced by Harvey Prevor working from the
original masters. Over a year ago Harvey Prevor passed away and his 2
daughters took over production. It took months to get any pictures, as they
were not used to the lenticular system and were learning through trial and
error - a tedious process. Lost City Arts needed a dependable supply of
these lenticulars for their customers, which included many of the rich and
famous. John Kennedy Jr. would stop in and buy them for Christmas gifts.
Unable to wait months to fill orders, the account was lost. The owner of
Chelsea Guitar took an interest in these and approached me. I told him of
the production problems but he wanted to carry them anyway. Harvey's
daughters raised the price to me - so Chelsea is forced to sell them for $400
-$450 each. ( there is a smaller size - one you may have seen is John Wayne
holding a Realist - which sells for less) Trouble is, I got him a few before
Christmas and just today got a few more from his original order for 25
pictures back in November 2000. There is a variety of 16 large and 6 small.
Hopefully Harveys daughters will be able to ship consistently some day. If
anyone on this list wants any, and you are willing to wait months, I will put
you on a waiting list for about half of the Chelsea retail price, but you
will have to be patient.
