[photo-3d] Camera Coupling

I use two coupled camera rigs at the moment.
A pair of Minolta XG-1's and a pair of Olympus Trip 35s, both pairs
are mounted on bars which have been machined to fit.
The Minolta's are coupled electronically, but the Trips have to have
a double cable release.
Is there any other way of coupling them that anyone knows??
I found that by grinding down the lugs that were intended for the
neck straps, I could get the Trips closer together by nearly 10mm
and that does seem to have had a marked effect on the results.
The Minolta's are slightly offset on the bar to get the same result.
I don't find that the minimal hyperstereo effect presents any real
difficulty when the slides are mounted and viewed as a pair,
providing I stay at least 20 feet away from my near object.
Although the Minolta's are fitted with 30 - 70mm zooms I find that
90% of my shooting is done at 35mm.
If I zoom to 70mm, should this make any difference in the apparent
separation?
