[photo-3d] what a camera!

I met the announcement of a strange camera in the stereo3d.com web site. it
says: "Dec 19, 2000: Mobotix -Internet-Vision-Systems offers an outdoor
digital video camera with stereoscopic option. The camera works as a
stand-alone webserver with Ethernet and ISDN interfaces. An ideal solution
for a true 3D-webcam at a reasonable price starting at around $500."

That web page is in german, but thare are pointers to english F.A.Q. and to
an eglish pdf downlodable document.
The camera has specic purposes different from 3d, but its possible 3d
applications are evident.
The amazing thing is its price. Hence I believe something like could be
built with stereo purposes for amateur use, and sold even cheaper  (consider
we don't need the expensive weatherproof shell)
