[photo-3d] Digital stereo cameras
>
> I think the biggest obstacle to stereo photography has always
been mounting and viewing, not the taking.
I think the biggest obstacle currently is lack of consumer
awareness and interest. The fact that the term "3D" has been
hijacked by the computer graphics world doesn't help, although
perhaps we'll see cameras designed to create web ready "3D"
models that can be adapted for use as true stereo imaging
devices.
>Digital stereo could solve these problems in a number of
>ways.
The mind reels at the thought of what could be possible with a
dedicated digital stereo camera; while previewing in stereo you
could decide how far apart to place the lenses, perhaps there
could be "auto-depth" settings as well as auto exposure. Add a
few more lenses and you could print lenticulars on the spot.
Now all we need is a major manufacturer to sink some money
into the idea. Jim Harp
