At "Photographica" in London every year I have a table next to a very
nice Frenchman, who has been selling copies of a two volume history
of Jules Richard. Unfortunately he speaks very little English, I speak
no French , and the books are in French. I will look out for them this year
(Mid May) and report back any publishing details I can glean.

Incidentally my saddest "one that got away" story is Taxiphote
related. I was touring the fields of a huge outdoor antique fair
some years ago, and found what appeared to be part of a very
early stereoscopic projector. It had bulbs, various electronic controls,
lenses, etc. However it seemed to be missing
some key elements- including the slide holder unit. I searched for
some time in the dozens of old boxes but couldn't find the "missing"
pieces.
Since the seller wanted £90 ($150) I eventually left it.
When Paul Wings book was published
I discovered what it was I had missed - it was the stereo projector
attachment
for a Metascope Universal ( a Taxiphote lookalike). You fitted the
bulb part at the back of the viewer, and the lens part at the front and
turned
your Metascope in to a stereo projector. In fact there had been nothing
missing
from the example I saw - it just needed a Metascope to be fitted on.
The next time I saw one was a few years later when it went at auction for
£600 ($900)

Oh well.
