[photo-3d] Introduction to Stereo/Experiment

For the past few days we had my wife's sister's grandson (grand nephew??)
Reinhart Finzen and his girlfriend Tanja Wainz visiting with us. She
noticed my Keystone Telebinocular Viewer and asked about it. Turns out
that neither of them knew anything about stereography, except her
childhood acquaintance with Viewmaster. So being the "Stereo Ambassador"
that I am I gave them them the complete Stereo Introduction, at least as
far as the equipment and images that I have. This included the
following:
a. Stereo Cards-Both old an new. Included in the new cards were several
from Master Card Maker Stan White, who makes the best stereo cards I have
seen (in my relatively short 28 years of stereo experience) Among the old
cards was one made and sold in 1862, of a Lion Statue that I am
interested in. I included MF slides in Stereo Card mounts in this
section, since that is where this format fits, I believe
b. Realist format stereo slides- Both in viewers and projected. Included
in this section were slides from Paul Wing, longtime slide maker, as well
as some of Dick Twichwell's award winning images.
c. 2x2 stereo slides - In Viewers
d.Viewmaster- Both commercial and a wonderful six reel set of Niagara
Falls/NewYork made by Dick Twichell in 1997.
e.. Lenticulars including some up to 8x10 inches in size
f. Digital - The Bill Walton 3D-CD Project. No we didn't look at all
1127 images, but we did look at many of them. Reinhart was really
interested in the 84 images from the Flensburg Germany section as that is
where he was born and raised.
After we had worked our way thru the various formats I asked them to each
make a list ranking the different formats. The results:
Reinhart
1. Stereo Cards
2. Projected Realist Format Stereo Slides
3. 2x2 Stereo Slides
4. Realist Format Slides in Viewers
5. Digital
6. Viewmaster
7. Lenticulars
Tanja
1. Stereo Cards
2. Projected Realist Format Stereo Slides
3.Viewmaster
4. Realist Format Slides in Viewers
5 2x2 Stereo Slides
6. Digital
7 Lenticulars
What does all this mean? In the overall picture, probably nothing. But
it was enjoyable and I have introduced two more people to stereography.
Tanja also learned to freeview stereo cards during the week end and both
of them are talking about buying stereo cameras. We will see!!!!
