Just observing the following responses about the convention scheduling from
our fellow 3Drs:
Ray Zone responds: one is free to attend either slide programs or
the trade fair. Convention organizers always do their best to accommodate as
many people as possible and there is no bias toward any one group. NSA
conventions have now grown to the point where one may selectively have to
choose how they spend their time when attending one.
Martha McCann Wrote: I attended my first NSA convention in '97 and
chose to attend the workshops instead of the stereo theater, as I knew I had
a lot to lean (still do). In retrospect, it was a mistake to ignore the
theater. Two years later in Green Bay, I found that the inspiration that
comes from seeing good work was as useful as any instruction.
Gary Schacker wrote: It seems to me that prior to the most recent
years, the workshops were indeed held on both Saturday and Sunday during the
trade show, so that one could take a break from shopping, attend a workshop
and then hit the trade show floor again. Makes sense no?
It seems to me as with all conventions you have to plan for the mass
majority to get the most out of it. It cannot be just a one time experience
or then you will not have all your newly made friends returning year after
year. I must admit that I have not attended the convention as of yet (that is
my goal for next year), but wouldn't it make sense to start with the
workshops first (on Fridays?). That way newbies or pros could learn about
the equipment or methods used. Then go out Saturday and shop for the
equipment at the trade show, and when your out of $$ go see the slide shows.
By seeing the slide shows you then pick up New ideals and skills so you know
from who or what to buy when your next stash pile gets built up again. I
guess what I am trying to say is to start with the beginning and work towards
a finished product theory. Im not trying to step on any persons toes who work
for FREE planing something this big, but reading what others have said about
this convention for the last three years it always seems to be a little
confusing about the order of events. Wouldn't a beginning to end schedule of
events work? Please correct me if I am wrong so when I DO attend next year it
will make sense.
