Kodak announced the demise of KODACHROME 25 Professional Film / PKM
only a few months ago in their Technical Data Sheet E-55, dated
December 2000 where they say:
Exact Quote:
KODACHROME 25 Film / KM replaced KODACHROME 25 Professional Film / PKM
KODACHROME 25 Film / KM, a member of the KODAK SELECT Series, replaced
KODACHROME 25 Professional Film / PKM.
KODACHROME 25 Film / KM delivers extremely sharp, fine-grained images,
and features superior archival characteristics. colors are saturated,
yet natural in appearance.
KODACHROME 25 Film / KM also features room temperature storage.
End Quote
They seemed to have moved very quickly in deciding to discontinue the
consumer version of Kodachrome 25 (KM) as well so soon after this
announcement. Is it just possible that the comments on the web site
resulted from the decision to discontinue Kodachrome 25 Professional
Film (PKM)?
I no longer use Kodachrome 25 myself and Kodak's problem will be that
there will be 1000s of others who are doing likewise. However, it is
still probably the best available slide film for close-ups and
still-life work when a higher speed film is not necessary.
