Let me answer your question. A wee bit of math is required, which you
might find impractical or simply unappealing, but the accurate answer to
your question is this:
New base = Original base * (Original Focal Length / New Focal Length)
So, assuming you like the results you get when using the 1/30 rule to
calculate base for a 50mm lens, you should be content with the results had
when using a 35mm lens by multiplying the 1/30 base by the ratio 50/35.
Similarly, if your normal lens is 55mm, then multiply the 1/30 base by
55/35 when using the 35mm lens, to compensate for the change in focal length.
