To which Mike Davis replied:
"Your argument here is that if RBT thought there was any merit in changing
the base with a change in focal length, they would have incorporated
variable base into their design. So, not only was their decision to use a
fixed base design not a compromise, you regard (at least at this writing)
their design choice to be proof that there's no need to adjust the base
when focal length is changed."

Well, these thoughts occurred to me too when I first read George's post, but
then I realized that he's just saying that RBT would stick to fixed-FL
lenses, probably around 35-50mm, if zooming outside that range would
necessarily cause visual problems in the end product.

However, I think the real issue in this lies buried where George uses the
word "needed"....and the stereo base doesn't *need* to be changed,
true....but come on, George, you know perfectly well that the issue is
whether or not it is *advantageous* to change the stereo base when changing
FL. Ya know, sometimes I think you like to word things a certain way just
to get a rise out of someone. :)

That's all I have to say about this. Now you two be sure and count to ten
before you say any more! :) Before long, one of you is liable to be
bragging, "my stereo base is bigger than your stereo base..." LOL

Best regards,

Mike Galazin
