S3D Why and when to auction?

Judging from my recent experience (TDC 4" lenses and 7p carrier
for 716 projector) I think trying to get offers for unusual or items
in high demand in sell-3d is a waste of time.

Most of the responses I received for these TDC items said this:
"I really don't know what these items should go for, so why don't you
decide what you want and let me know..."

I also received some VERY LOW offers, like $25 for the 7p carrier!
Or, $70 for the 4" lenses (Now, I know for fact that some people
are TRADING 5" with 4" lenses for $125... so, does it make sense
to SELL a 4" pair for less than that???)

In the past I have sold items for fixed (and some people say
reasonable) prices in sell-3d. But sometimes I wonder if that's
a good idea... For example, I have sold TDC 716 projectors
(complete) for $450. Same projectors have gone for $750-$1000 in
eBay. There is more involved here than "losing money". It also
affects my buying decisions.

There are two types of stereo items: One is commodities, like a
Realist stereo camera. The other is unique or items in high demand.
I think a good "stategy" is to post the first types in sell-3d with
a fixed reasonable price, and the second in eBay (or other auctions).

I also don't mind seeing eBay announcements here because I rarely
check eBay myself and would like to know of possibly unusual stereo
items.
