It can be done. My approach involves extending the Selectron shutter
leaves, opening the window for 7p, then completely retiming the mechanism
so the shutters/dowser closes at the right time and the mount is in the
correct position. It also means recutting (extending) the slot on the top.
In Australia, they did another version with a secondary shutter/dowser,
which may be superior, because in theory, you could take this one beyond
7p. On the one I did, 7p is the limit. I removed metal a file stroke at a
time once I started resetting the timing, because you have about 1mm to
spare. Pass that 1mm line and you have junk instead of a Selection. Also,
all the rivets holding the carrier together are replaced with tiny screws
(which is handy for lubrication and cleaning-- I recommend doing this to
all Selectrons because they tend to get cruddy and it's nice to be able to
open them up to clean. Although I suppose you could just soak it in naptha
until it's clean, blow in a bunch of Mr. Zip graphite, and blow out the
excess. However it probably runs best with some teflon grease on the
rails, and that means taking it apart...). The back two inside screws need
to be very flat on top to clear the projector housing. You need to tap the
end blocks on the carrier for the screws...

At the moment, I don't have the time to offer this modification, although
I wrote it up ages ago for P3D. Check the archives-- I no longer have the
text. Good luck (you'll need it. :)

And just to make this an S3D post, try Harry Poster if you trash the
Selectron carrier-- he generally has some available!
