God, I (heart) my CLA'ed Belplasca! That unique assembly
of metal and glass parts, formed by the will of mid-century
East German craftsmen, beloved of generations of stereo
enthusiasts for whom it paints worlds in splendid depth and
detail.
The silky movement the aperture and focus rings, their
pleasing diameter and comfortable legibility, easily settable
at any point. The shutter setting wheel, again, so easily set
yet so secure, and the 1/170, 1/90, 1/55, 1/30, 1/15 and
longer actual speeds I have show well under 10% scatter.
The nice release that, even with a long throw, feels like a
hair trigger, the shot sometimes seeming to happen of
itself, almost silently, with nary a shudder. The clear and
simple viewfinder is no handicap, for parallax is taken into
account (beware the hyperfocals, though). Plus, Zeiss is
nice (and if I need to worry about close-ups, I'll carry a
tape measure).
Even the (insouciant) 3/8th inch tripod/case socket is just
another, not unwelcome, expression of its uniqueness. Am
I in love, or what? :-)
