[sell-3d] Rangefinder, 50 yds - 2 miles

I took this out on a country road and checked it with the trip meter
on my car. I found it to be accurate to as close as I could measure
with the car trip meter. Now, I am getting too old for such things.
If you are going to to do stereo with two cameras, on a bar, or on
two tripods, you need to know the distance to the closest object in
the picture, if you are going to do it right. To determine this with
any degree of accuracy one has to use a rangefinder. This is a range
finder like hunters with high powered rifles use in big game hunts,
to adjust the rear sight on the rifle, to compensate for the drop in
the bullet's trajectory at great distances. It happens to be just
the ticket for stereographers to determine the distance to the
closest
object, in calculating the best stereo base, with some stereo base
calculator, such as is sold by Peter Herbig in Germany. Jon Golden
sells one. New Vision Technology sells a computer program, 3D CALC
on two floppy disks. I used Charley Piper's formula set in a pocket
calculator. You can order one of these rangefinders out of a
sporting catalogue, but you will pay a lot more than I am asking, for
one of this quality. And this one is as good as new. Photograph of
