I have found that most sellers with inaccurate descriptions are just
ignorant rather than deliberately trying to mislead. Nine times out of
ten if I have made a polite "correction" or given the seller additional
information I have gotten thanks, and never have I received the kind of
response George received from that one seller. Even with matters such as
questioning postage costs, I have almost always gotten a polite
response. When there has been a problem with an item I have gotten
either a refund, or in some cases I have negotiated a partial refund if
the issue was the condition of the item being not as described.
I would certainly ascribe much of the politeness that I have experienced
in the ebay forum to the feedback system, which tends to keep things
civil. The problem with it is that even well deserved negative feedback
is usually countered by negative feedback against the complainer, hence
discouraging honest feedback.
Unfortunately, when faced with the type of hostility that was shown by
this one seller, the best course may be to back off and "grin and bear
it" as suggested by Mary Ann. But I will continue to send polite
"educational" messages on occasion to sellers who appear to be
misinformed rather than malicious.
Perhaps we can get back to an even more polite selling forum here on
sell-3d?-Linda
