It appears to me that this is a different twist to a "reserve price"
auction.  Right now, if you set a reserve price and the bidding doesn't
get up there, the seller reserves the right to cancel the auction.  It
seems that the "Buy It Now" feature simply ends the auction whenever
someone bids the reserve price.  IMHO, the seller stands to lose in this
type of deal as the auction price could go higher than the reserve or
the buy it now price.

Of course, eBay stands to profit by having auctions ending faster since
the "buy it now" option would pretty much end the auction.
