The reflector problem

In another list, we determined that the light coming from a point
source located at the focus of a paraboloid is not even across the
exit of the paraboloid. This means a paraboloid would not make a
good reflector for a stereo viewer. The red button uses some sort
of reflector. How was its shape determined? Remember there is a
complicating factor here: the red button's surface is painted
white and so is a rough (perhaps very rough?) approximation of a
Lambertian surface. What effect does this have? What is the
correct shape for a viewer reflector?

Thanks,
John B
