A long time ago i suggested to George that it might be an interesting
addition to his modifications to take a good color temp meter and check his
halogen bulbs as installed, then insert a Wratten gel pack to correct the
light back to 5000 K or so. I'm sure he had better things to do than
implement this, but i am wondering if anyone else has done it.

The only problem i see with this is the small light loss inherent in
filtration. But the lamps are already sufficiently bright that this
shouldn't be a problem. I haven't found a color meter or i would have tried
it myself. I think you would have to use a '3-sensor' meter for this kind
of thing.

John B wondered whether fluorescent lamps matched color film well. I have
used a desk lamp with GE F15T8-C50 "Chroma 50" lamp for pictures taken with
various Fujichromes and found the results subjectively acceptable, although
i didn't verify the accuracy objectively. I believe that the ANSI CRI
figure is intended to represent how well a lamp matches 5000 K for viewing
transparencies (and illuminating subjects for photography), and there are
other color temps intended for other uses per ANSI. Macbeth has a web site
which discusses this among other color quality issues.
