I don't know for sure, but having also recently noted that the new 
Canon IX APS camera codes the film for the color quality of the light 
so the printer can correct..I suspect that both systems do what the 
ordinary color temperature meter does...compared the light to the 
ratio of it seen through a red and blue filter. (Supposedly the only 
color temp meter that is any good for fluorescent light is a three 
filter one???). So if the ratio measured can read K deg. to a 100 or 
so, then it might be easy to set a range with a simpler system???
