CD-ROM slide show

The current discussion of modified deviation is raising some relevant issues
for me.

I am preparinga CD-ROM 'slide show' of the (long awaited) figure studies
collection that is previewed on my web-site. The images will be interlaced
for use with VR Surfer glasses, 3D Max or similar products.

I am planning to start the presentation with the introduction of a "magic
window" or 'picture frame'. It will move forward (toward the viewer) until
it protrudes about 1/2" through the monitor. The 'slide show' will then be
shown through that 'window'. (Except for an occasional branch, all of my
images will be 'behind' the window.)

This raises some questions. The Realist format in which the sldes were shot
simulates a 4 foot window (more or less) that is 7 feet away from the
viewer. My 'magic window", however, is obviously smaller and closer. If I
were to draw the appropriate sight lines for viewing both situations, they
would differ considerably. In order to view these pictures through this
window, the light beams have to change angle after reaching the edges of the
frame. (Sort of like 'looking around corners'.)

I am soliciting predictions about the problems / solutions, or the effects
I'm likely to encounter.

Certainly, "how it looks and feels" will determine which window placement I
finally use. I suspect that I'll like the "3D-ness" of many stereo images
regardless of their deviation from true 'ortho' representation.

Also, sitting in front of a computer screen introduces a degree of stretch
(compared with a Red button viewer). AND, my images were shot with a Duplex
Super 120 (with a base of 30mm), which 'counter-compensates' (double
negative?) for that stretch.

I'll be glad to post sample images and window placements at Joel's image
discussion site, as the project evolves.

Any thoughts on these matters would be welcome.
