Book: "The Eye and Visual Optical Instruments"

Some time ago, a question about a new book was posted.  I ordered a copy of
'The Eye and Visual Optical Instruments', G. Smith & D. Atchison, Cambridge
U. Pr., 1-800-872-7423, 1997, ISBN 0-521-47820-0, paperback, 816pp, $58
ppd., (twice that for hardback).  The authors are at universities in
Melbourne & Queensland.  It is a very good technical overview of optics as
it relates to visual instruments.  Many of the sections are very
abbreviated, including the material on stereoscopic systems. There is a
very good 20 page chapter on 'Visual ergonomics of binocular & biocular
systems' that covers much material that has been the subject of discussion
on 3d lists, including collimation & alignment, and accomodation &
convergence.  Most users with decent libraries would not find it essential,
since it is a compilation of the basics of many fields, with good
references & a glossary.  However, I am very happy with my investment &
have already found it useful.

And....if you've read this far, an unrelated note:  I am looking for
someone of the egghead persuasion to split my hotel room at Bellevue.
Party types ok, snorers less so.  If I get multiple responses, I will put
the writers in touch with each other.
