Sounds like BobH has a gone a ways towards answering the side
question of trading off resolution for acutance.  Not sure
how more power is put into the central part of the Airy disk
as opposed to the rings.  I thought that was only a function
of aperture but it sounds like you're hinting that there are
other ways to change the proportion.
