2X teleconverter and 35 fl lens?

Ferwerda tells us a 70 mm taking lens is best for projected 35 mm format 
pairs.  However, unless you want to use a 35-70 zoom, with its attendant
problems, you're kind of stuck.  So is there a 2x teleextender which is
appropriate for one of the good common 35 m focla length lenses?
