RE: John B. wants to know how I am using the word center when I
mentioned it? I meant the core spot of the Airy disc which in high
contrast design is big with reduced flare rings. A small core is tiny
but with this goes more flarey rings surrounding it that reduces.
Constast. The quotes from Cox's book re acutance and resolving power
may have hit the answer..e.g. "that a lens can have two focii one of
maximum contrast and one of maximum resoltion." That is what I was
thinking when I mentioned resetting cam in rangefinder or ground
glass in SLR so lens focusses on film different than eye might see in
finder. BobH
