Bob, does the description of the Zeiss paper fit in pretty well 
with what you and others have been saying about German lenses vs. 
Japanese lenses?  To me it seems to be an exact fit but I don't 
want to be presumptious.

I would think the German approach is correct also for 3D.  In fact
it's even more correct, in the sense that in 3D we know exactly what
distance we're going to view the image from, or in a more general
phrasing, what angles the images will subtend at the eye.  However,
3D as she is took today pushes the limits of lens and film so
much that I would think that the goal of matching image resolution
to visual resolution, in this case, would be tantamount to a goal
of raw resolution, as long as it's perceivable resolution (>5%).
