You know the right words, Peter.  An "incoherent array", that's 
what I think the eyes act as, because I don't see how they can be 
made coherent without some sort of high speed communication.  I 
thought your explanation for why two eyes see better than one 
(error correction) was great.  (Not in small part because that was 
what I was speculating. 8-)  Seems like both images are on the 
visual cortex at the same place and the same time so why not do 
error correction?  If we say the eyes are combined coherently, we 
have to explain why ordinary best visual acuity isn't improved 
by two eyes but rather matches the pixel density of a retina and 
the most usual aperture of a single eye.
