Re: Viewing angle

I should add that these viewing distances have implications for required
resolution on the negative. Since the eye can see 1 minute of arc under
very good conditions, and we view a 4x6 print at 16", we need 8.5 lpmm on
the print and 36 lpmm on the film. Contrast this with stereo needs: In
the 35 mm format, assuming the taking and viewing lenses are around 40 mm,
the required resolution so that no fuzziness will be seen under even the
best of conditions would be 86 lpmm. Even in medium format, where the
taking and viewing lenses are both 80 mm and so the requirement is less
stringent than with 35 mm format, 1 minute of angle at 80 mm comes out to
43 lpmm.
