T3D Microswitches in viewers?

I have seen a Stereolist viewer (Realist red button clone)
where David Burder put a "microswitch" so when you press the
"red button" it presses the switch for the light to come on.
It is claimed that this prevents flickering which is caused by
oxidized switch contacts when high current/low voltage bulbs are
used in viewers.

It is not clear to me how these microswitches work. Is there a
contact made? If it is, then why would these switches reduce
flickering?

Thanks for any help!
