T3D Re Dead Fed cell

I dont know if I am just lucky but I have only had to change the battery in
my Fed twice since I have had it which was about 1993. I do keep it in its
case and  uncocked usualy which probably helps. The French stereoscopic
society journal had an article about making a dark shutter to cover the
photocell but as has been pointed out the apertures which cover the
photocell and decide the ASA setting include a blank position which allows
no light to the cell at all. So I sometimes use that but then you not only
have to set it back but to the correct setting as well. I have also come
across the mercury switch idea.
