Well, it's easy enough to calculate the degree and nature of the
distortion following Ferwerda or Piper.  The change in base makes
a change in all three dimensions and the change in focal length
makes a change in only the depth dimension.  So pick yer poison.
8-)  One thing's for sure, if you use 30,000 mm lenses to look at
a bird 100 meters away, you ain't going to see much depth with a 
normal stereobase.  8-)
