This is going to take more time to type up than it did to actually do it.
I ordered Digikey part number CKN5010 which is Digikey's designation for
C&K's part number GS02MCKE which is C&K's designation for a subminiature
slide switch. Price is about $6, no minimum order but you have to pay
postage if your order is less than $25. Naturally I bought lots of other
cool stuff I'll never use from their catalog thus avoiding the $3 postage.
Ain't I clever? I tested the switch same as I tested the others and could
not find any voltage drop through it with my equipment. Good enough. So
I took the bottom off the camera and cut the battery wire, soldered the
switch in the break, and epoxied the switch to the back wall of the com-
partment near the battery holder. Drilled two 1/8" diameter holes in the
bottom plate and filed out between them to make a slot right over the switch.
Stuck some very soft weatherstripping on the cover around the slot to seal
around the switch to keep dust out. (Not worried too much about light leaks
because there are other ways for light to get into that compartment.) Total
elapsed time? A little under 15 minutes. If you're interested, Digikey's
phone number is 1-800-Digikey. They and C&K have web sites if you want
detailed info on the switch.
