T3D extending MAOFD to projection

I've heard over and over that I need to put less depth in my slides if I
want to project them.  The common number I hear is "half as much."

How do I reconcile this with the MAOFD formula?

(I'm sorry to ask what appears to be a simple question, but I have looked
in the archives for over three hours, and I can't find the answer.  Thanks!)
