Another thought: When I said to go from 35 mm to MF you have to use
the same linear aperture and go up two stops in light, I was comparing
the situations where both the 35 mm and the MF gave _precisely_the_
same_resolution. So what's the advantage of going to MF? Obviously
none in this case.
You could also use Kodachrome 25 in the 35 mm format and a 100 speed
film in the MF format and then the light required would be the same.
However, you still have the same resolution, so what's the point?
Where you gain with MF is where you can take advantage of the higher
resolution of the MF lens/film combo. In macro work, you're limited
by DOF and physical optics, not by lens/film resolution. In distant
work, DOF and physical optics aren't the problem, lens/film res is.
