T3D Medium format macro needs 2 more stops?

I dont' understand the thing John said about medium format needing 2
more stops for macro.

I understand that the film is larger, but isn't it still just as
sensitive to light?

Keep in mind that I am more of a question asker than answerer (is that
a word) as far as tech stuff goes.  So I don't know if it can be
explained in a way I would understand it.  I will take your word on it
though.
