The basis is that we have pretty good evidence that audiences don't
have trouble with stereo pairs which contain a total parallax which
is less than 1/30th of "the distance to the screen", to put it simplest
terms.  The rest is merely a trivial geometric proof, some algebra, 
and a spreadsheet to do the figuring for you.

MAOFD does not give you better gas mileage or enable you to communicate
with the dead.  It will not make your pairs into art.  It only says that 
you can be pretty sure your stereo pair will be viewable (fusible) if you 
hold the depth to the aforementioned limit.
