Question: If you are not supposed to run air over a lamp, then why do
manufacturers (Many, All or Most?) incorporate a blower of some kind.

RM's Rules for longer bulb life:

1) If you have a projector with a vent system, do not obstruct the vents in
any way.

2) If the projector has a blower, make sure it functions correctly.

3) Let the projector cool before moving it or bumping it around. Never,
ever move a hot projector.

4) Quartz lamps are never to be touched with the bare fingers. The oils
have a detrimental effect on the life of the materials. There are no
specific warnings about standard glass bulbs, but handle them with care as
well. I have not bought any new lamps in some time, so there might be new
warnings and tips provided by the manufacturer. Read the information.

5) Do not substitute brighter/higher wattage lamps. Make sure you use the
correct lamp for the device. The only exception is if the equipment
manufacturer says it is an acceptable replacement.

6) Inspect power cords to insure they are not frayed or damaged. Do not run
power cords under a rug.

7) Inspect the bulb socket. It must not be damaged. If you need to replace
it, use a direct replacement. If the socket is ceramic, do not use plastic,
unless the manufacturer warrants it.

8) Never force a lamp into position. Observe pins and connections, and if
the lamp is stuck and can't be removed with ease, make sure you use
caution. An exploding bulb will ruin your day.

8) If I come to your Stereo Presentation, remember that I like butter, a
small amount of salt and perhaps you can chop up a small hot pepper to mix
with the butter. Never just plain Popcorn. I prefer Coke-A-Cola, but if it
is a hot day, a beer is nice, too.
