Kodak questions...

     Mr. Markerink & Mr. Bremke,

Kodak has a little known service they do offer to photographers &
dealers, where they can make any of their emulsions (I am accutely
aware of at least one exception - #@*&!)in any size.

Essentially this means that if you happen to use an 11x14 and
you want to use Kodak's B&W High Speed IR film, they will make
their sheet film version (the 7mm estar based stuff) in that
size for you. The trick is this: you have to buy the whole
prodcution run. Basically this breaks down to several hundered
sheets and a few thousand dollars (obviously these amounts
vary by what emulsion & what size you are talking about.)

There are a few catches, as I understand them:
You can't just call Kodak and place your order and get
the film in a week. Once the order is placed, they wait until
they are making that particular emulsion and then they slip
your run into the schedule. Also, they won't quote you a price
over the phone, you have to place your order through one of their
dealers, meaning you need a dealer #, and they tell the
specified dealer how much it will cost, he/she can then add
the appropriate amount for their effort (hah!)and pass the price
     along to you.

I have been bugging Tom Weber, at Eastman Kodak off and on for
a while now to get them to give me a reasonable answer as to why
they simply can't make their B&W IR emulsion in 120mm rolls and
let me worry about the godamn things being exposed to light.

If you would like to bug him too, here is his number - but you
didn't get it from me 6;^)

     800-242-2424 Ext. 19 (Professional Products.)

Also, press him for info. on Kodak's E-6 Color IR emulsion - he
is a nice enough guy but you can tell he's been trained a little
too well to pretend that he's just as ignorant as every one else,
and "really can't tell you what he himself doesn't know."

Good Luck, If you ever do get a good answer I would love to hear
     it.
     -A.

P.S. I am not in any way suggesting that everyone who reads this
start calling and bugging Kodak's Pro. Product people about
120mm Color & B&W IR films, but <if> we all did - it might just
     have an effect <wink> <wink>

P.P.S. I still haven't seen the first three digest issues, does
     anyone have them?
