The little Windowin my camera's back

I am new to this list, and I expect that this question may already have been
discussed to death, but here goes. Both my Minolta 9000 and 9xi have small
windows in the camera back for checking the type film loaded in the
camera. I am paranoid about IR leaking through that window, so I always
tape aluminum foil over it whenever I load HIE into the 9000 (I have never
used the 9xi with HIE; supposedly it has other problems related to the
pressure plate).
Am I being paranoid, or should I assume that the window is safe?
