I don't think that's real leather on my Speed Graphic, though the
early Graphlexes did seem to use leather. In any event, unless the
leakage is severe, it shouldn't be a problem, because you insert the
filmholder and remove the black slide only immediately before making
the exposure and replace the black slide immediately afterward. With
a Speed Graphic, the black slide may be off a little longer if you
frame with the viewfinder or sports frame, but still we're talking
maybe a minute tops--more likely a few seconds.
I have taken 4x5 IR sheet-film shots with my Speed Graphic and saw no
evidence of leakage.
