- Name: David Horn

- Profession/Study:Electrical Engineer

- Country:Born in England, educated in China, Live/work in NJ, USA

- Personal history of photography: Started with box camera at aprox. 8
years old. Father was keen amateur photographer. We did our own
B&W developing & printing in the bathroom since I was about 12.
After I came to the US in 1979 I joined a photo club.
This is by far the best way to get serious about photography.
(Do any other list members belong to a photo club?) Now I do a
bit of everything. My main interest is 35mm slides: landscapes,
flowers, etc.. I take 35mm negatives for travelogs with my wife.
She likes to hang up large prints of herself in exotic places
all around the house. I have a Horseman medium format technical
        camera for B & W prints, and a 4 by 5 speed graphic, which I
use for technical work (mostly with a polaroid back) and Infra
Red - Kodak HIE. I tried 35mm HIE but found it too grainy, even
though I have won awards for prints from 35mm HIE. I do all my
own darkroom work, B&W and color, though I do not yet have
running water in my basement darkroom. (Except for the time
that my water heater sprung a leak!!)

- preferred subjects: Landscapes, flowers, architecture, anything with
        a technical challenge.

- materials (film, filters, paper, chemistry):Fujichrome 100 for slides,
I rarely use filters. Sometimes a polarizer.
Kodak Royal Gold 100 35mm for prints (EP-2, just bought my 1st
        batch of RA-4)
I also love Royal Gold 25 when I have the light & time - it is
the most incredible film when blow up to the extreme.
        Ilford Pan F plus 120 for B&W (6 by 9 format), D 76
        Also used T-Max, Tri-X, Plus-X, XP-1/2, Technical Pan,...
        Kodak HIE 4 by 5 for IR, No 25 filter, D 76
B&W Paper: Used Seagull graded paper for years, now I'm
experimenting with Ilford MGIV, Forte, etc. I believe in finding
one thing that works well and then sticking with it, rather than
engaging in a never ending search for the optimum. It is hard
though, given the speed at which new and better products emerge.

- format (35mm/medium format/large format):
Canon T-90 for slides (GREAT camera!!), Canon AT-1 for 35mm neg.
Share a set of FD lenses. Favorite is 20mm-35mm L series zoom.
Horseman 985 technical camera for MF (also a great camera)
Speed Graphic for 4 by 5 - another great classic camera.
Wooden 5 by 7 and 8 by 10 cameras. Use rarely, but have made a
few really nice images directly to color positive print (Ektaflex).

- Other strange hobbies: Windsurfing, skiing, listening to music,
        traveling, ...

- How did you find out about this list: From Panoramic list

- Expand on anything photographic you like: I like building my own
photo/electronic gear. Such as high-speed and studio flash,
remote control, optical triggers, darkroom spot meter, etc.
My current project is an electronic camera.
