The expiry date was 12/95 but the film was kept frozen until just prior to
use. Furthermore, the pattern only occures on a few frames, and takes the
same shape in each one. The band may be quite pronounced in one frame, but
completely absent in the next, and when it does happen in two consecutive
frames, the band starts over being 2 mm wide in the rightmost frame, after
widening to 3mm in the left frame (I hope this is clear; I will scan parts
of the contact sheet and make them available for viewing in the next day or
two). The shutter in the Leica moves horizontally and is a solid piece of
cloth. I can't see how uneven exposures could occur in the vertical direction.
