Andy, your are correct. The Polar Bears fur does not have any pigment in it.
It is clear so it can conduct the Suns Solar Heat Energy to its skin which
is Black. A Polar Bear has to be careful of how much energy it uses at a time
because it can over heat. This can happen easly with clear skys and sub zero
temperatures. This is also why they stalk their pray instead of chasing it.
