Perhaps this is why some HIE users recommend developing in D-19. If you
are cutting the development time towards the short end to minimize grain
size, you will also sacrifice contrast. Be aware that D-19 will give too
much contrast if you let it develop for the usual 5 minutes at 68 degrees.
I guess a cooler temperature would work to slow the development down as
cutting down the time would be risky to getting even development.
