For the old holders, you look on the dark slide.  
If it has three metal dots in the area where the handle attaches to the slide, 
it's not IR safe.  If it has 5, then it is.

My "The Complete Photographer" of 1947 says that leather bellows with
rubberized coating are IR safe.
